Is “Cure in place” a good way to fix a sewer leak? Ask Tom on Homeshow

Charlie: How do these “cure it in place” people determine if I have a sewer leak? Do they put a camera down there, exactly how do they know where the leak is located?

Tom: Okay well plumbers in general, we can make this a general thing because they are plumbers that have this process. What they’ll do is they’ll either do a hydro-static test or they’ll run cameras down there, or they’ll do both. Most of the time the plumbers will use the camera today and to see if they can spot the leak. If they can’t, but they still suspect one is there, they can do the hydro-static test where they block the sewer lines off, fill it with water and see if it’s leaking somewhere, but the camera really, they’ve come so far that they really can find out where it is.
Charlie: Do they determine where it is by how much camera they run down?
Tom: Exactly, yep.
Charlie: All right.
