I have a zero soffit roof, how do I get some ventilation?

Podcast: Play in new window

Charlie: Greg at Westchase writes: His new home has a ridge vent, but no soffit. “I need a contractor who knows how to install some sort of roof edge vents or fascia to get the product ventilation. Is that possible? The roof is almost flush with the walls.”

Tom: He’s got a zero soffit, is what it’s called!

Charlie: That’s what it says; he goes on to say there is no soffit.

Tom: No, it’s called zero soffit and it’s a problem. See what your options are, call Ideal Roofing, see if they can come up with a solution for you. It’s a compromise you make for an architectural style, because soffit vents are supposed to be in soffits. It’s a misuse of architectural detail by inexperienced people who are either home designers or wannabes.
