How often should I descale?

Descaling my instant water heater. How often do I need to do it? Should I put a gallon meter on it and go off of that?

Tom: Usually it’s recommended every 6 months under normal use. I don’t know if I’d get into gallon meters, that would be a little persnickety, a little too much to go through, but they recommend every 6 months if you don’t have a water softener. What do I recommend? Get a water softener and forget about all that maintenance you have to do on the house.
