Tom:
When you buy paint, you buy it from a manufacturer, say Sherman Williams, that’s just the first thing that comes to mind, wherever you buy it. They are gonna have their paint colors. The thing you want to choose is their paint colors. When you get really bad fading, it’s ether really bad paint, so you always want to buy good paint. Or, you’re buying a specialty mixed color that was not formulated to handle the sun and all the temperature differences in Houston throughout the year. They will start to fade too.
Now, if you want to go tried and true, the color that will last the longest, and fade the least, and the sun the best is yellow. Sometimes I wonder if that’s why Stephen at Norwest, painted his building yellow, cause it’s never been paint, but once. And it’s still yellow. That would be a color that you could choose, but not a color that everybody likes.
Charlie:
Well, he’s the trusty fellow in yellow. That’s why.
Tom:
But anyway. Pick the colors that they’ve already formulated and have been tested. You can talk to the guys selling the paint, and they will tell you, for our products, such as Sherman Williams, or Pittsburgh, or whatever you’re buying, they will say these are the colors that hold up best in the weather.
Charlie:
Benjamin Moore.
Tom:
At Benjamin Moore. I mean, think there are a bunch of them out there. You bet.
Charlie:
Right. Okay. Bottom line is, make sure that you’re getting something that has UV protection in it and …
Tom:
That they’ve done the research on and you’re not getting a special …
Charlie:
… And probably a lighter color will be better than a darker color.
Tom:
To a point, but and it’s also not necessarily. Sometimes it’s the pastels, like the pinks, and the peaches, and colors like that, that actually fade more. Then, a standard darker, or lighter color. Yellow just holds up better in the sun. You know, that’s why …
Charlie:
Trying to think the last time I saw a pink house.
Tom:
Well, I had pink trim on my beach house. It faded all the time. I didn’t pick it. They called it coral. It turned pink. Anyway, that’s why Hardie makes their primer for Texas, yellow.
Charlie:
And here I thought it was cause you make sure that you painted it, cause it was an ugly color.
Tom:
No. It holds up the best in the yards, while it’s sittin in the sun.
