What siding is the best at repelling golf balls without damaging the siding?

Charlie: John in Hayden, Idaho. We’ve got a lot of people on the stream here this morning. He says, “What siding is the best?” He lives on a golf course. He wants one that won’t break when the golf balls hit it.

Podcast: Play in new window

Tom: Well, first off, anytime you subject anything to abuse … I mean, I guess steel. Why don’t we just get a 28-gauge steel and just wrap your house in it?

Charlie: I love it, yeah.

Tom: It’s going to take in a problem.

Charlie: Yeah.

Tom: I mean, living on a golf course, you have these issues.

Charlie: Sure.

Tom: But that’s not what siding’s about. Siding’s about not rotting, not burning, not having termites, holding paint well, looking good.

Charlie: Wait a minute, that’s starting to sound like …

Tom: Well, hardy is good for everywhere. That’s the bottom line. If you’re just going to bang golf balls at something, I don’t know of anything except maybe a tank, M1.

Charlie: How do you keep the golfers from damaging your roofing?

Tom: It’s like, how do you keep the golf balls from breaking your window?

Charlie: Well, I’m thinking-

Tom: Well, I guess you could buy hurricane windows but in Idaho.

Charlie: Well, I have a friend who lives on a golf course.

Tom: Yeah?

Charlie: They have these Plexiglass panels that are over their windows.

Tom: Really?

Charlie: And that stops the golf balls, you bet.
