Charlie: Leah in Alleytown, Texas, says she had a Formica countertop in her kitchen, and she didn’t think it was all that well laid when they put it in, but she had a frozen item and she smacked it against the counter, now she has a crack on that counter. She’s wondering, is there any kind of small repair that she can do to fix that crack.
Tom: On Formica?
Charlie: Yeah.
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom: No.
Charlie: Don’t smack frozen items on your countertop, please.
Tom: Unless it’s stone, I mean, you can do that on a granite one.
Charlie: Well, you’ve got to be careful. First off, you get the thermal shock action.
Tom: Oh, no.
Charlie: People think it’s a big strong slab, but it’s not. They have all these mesh and stuff on the back to hold it together because it’s got cracks in it already when they actually start to form it and work with it. You’ve got to be careful. It’s durable. You can put things on it, but smacking it with stuff is not a good idea.
Tom: So, she’s looking at a replacement counter here then, is that right?
Charlie: Probably new Formica or new granite, or whatever you want to do. But yeah, I don’t know of any way you can repair plastic laminate.
Tom: Or, you make yourself feel really good and call TriFection and have them take a look at updating your kitchen.
Charlie: That’s what you could do.
Tom: Well, you could certainly do that.
Charlie: All right.
