Fastening Hardie plank

What type of fastener do you recommend for Hardie plank?

Louis

Tom: We can use screws or nails, never staples. As far as the nails go, it’s usually either a roofing nail, make sure that it always has at least an inch and a quarter purchase into whatever you’re nailing it into, and then then thickness. The roofing nails have a nice head. You never want to sink the head below the Hardie.
The other thing is if you have an exposed nail, the roofing nails are too big. Then you would use a #6 galvanized common exterior nail, and it has a smaller head. Just set it nice on the surface and paint it, and it will kind of blend.
