My AC drip pan is totally rusted out but can’t be replaced without dismantling the furnace, should I replace everything?

Charlie: We’ll go to the Fourth Ward where Joe has an air conditioning question, Tom. He says, “I have an Okinonal HVAC installer,” I think it’s an air conditioning guy, anyway, I’m thinking, anyway, he’s ready to replace his five ton air conditioner in his town home. And it was originally installed back in ’01, so he got a good lifespan out of this thing. And he says the drip pan in the attic is totally rusted out and can’t be replaced without dismantling the furnace.  So he’s wondering if now’s the time just to replace everything. This is what the HVAC telling him and he’s recommending Coleman. So he wants to know should he replace and is Coleman a brand that you’re familiar with?

Podcast: Play in new window

Tom: Coleman’s a fine brand. It’s not as common here in the Houston area as it is in other areas but it’s still fine. We have some units that we train with over at HCC, so they’re a good unit. And as far as that goes, it’s probably just time to do the whole thing if it’s a 2001 unit-

Charlie: I’m thinking.

Tom: So, as long as the price is right, that’s what you’re looking for.
