Charlie:
Hey. Brian writes to us this morning. He’s got a house on stilts over there in Kiln, Mississippi. He writes to us. He says, “It’s about 15 years old and the stilts under the house are starting to show longitudinal cracking. Not all the stilts have them but most of them.” He’s not sure what to do or if he should do anything right now. What say you?

Tom:
I know when I used to have my homes, my home in Galveston, it would get that same cracking. That’s a weather crack. It’s a shrinkage crack. It’s just surface. It’s not bad but if you want to paint them like I used to paint mine, you have to fill it with caulking first so it looks nice. It’s not a structural problem.
Charlie:
The caulking would be purely cosmetic.
Tom:
Yeah, if you’re going to pain it.
