Smokey the Bear is not pleased

Will brushing/soaking 2×4’s with motor oil deter termites when the 2×4’s are used as supports for keeping metal supplies and junk off the ground (dirt)? 2×4’s will be oiled and put on top of bricks spaced 4 ft apart.

Tom: I guess until they dry out it would do something. It would deter a lot of different things including you from touching the wood. Unless you just like the oily feel on your fingers. It seems kind of odd. I would buy pressure treated wood and just use it, but would it work? I don’t know. Maybe you could try it, if you have nothing else to do with your oil. I don’t think environmental issues are being considered. It’s not good to pour motor oil all over stuff and just leave it laying around. My environmental side says no. My curiosity side says maybe and quite frankly, my common sense says, what are you nuts? Get some pressure treated lumber.
