Do you know of any builders in the Hill Country that will build me a barndominium?

Charlie: “Mark in Kingman says, “I have three acres just north of 59 and North Park up in Porter and I want to build a barndominium and I contacted some builders in the Hill Country but they won’t do it in this area. Who can he go to to get a barndominium?”

Podcast: Play in new window

Tom: “Hmmm. You know I remember once somebody told me, “Barns are for animals.” This was an architecture school, right?

Charlie: “Right.

Tom: “But it’s really kind of a cool concept. It’s really a big open building so if you’re not looking for a 100-year old barn like say Old World Lumber and want to convert one of those, I would say big metal building and Mueller Metal Buildings or Steel Buildings. They’re the place to go. They can create that big barn and in Texas barn is more metal than it is wood, right?

Charlie: “I hope so.

Tom: “So I think that would be a great place to start. Then you finish down into what you want.

Charlie:: “Then you go to Old World Lumber and  clad it with …

Tom: “They got some cool stuff.

Charlie: “They’ve got … I was over there at Old World and they have some old red barn board.

Tom: “Oh.

Charlie: “You know the exterior stuff. Guess who their number one customer is for that?

Tom: “I want to say restaurants.

Charlie: “Whole Foods.

Tom: “Is it?

Charlie: “Yeah, Whole Foods

Tom: “That makes sense.
