A/C fan runs after compressor shuts off

Tom, my a/c runs for about a minute after the Compressor shuts off. It’s a 3 month old 3 ton 16 seer. Is this normal?

Thanks

David

Tom: It is for the high seer units. What it’s meant to be doing is all the cool air that got trapped in the ducts. In today’s homes, there’s a lot of air in those ducts. It blows for a little bit longer, to take advantage of that cool air, instead of it just heating back up in the ducts. It blows it into the house and that way, they get a more efficient system. It’s part of the bells and whistles with these new units.
Charlie: You know, you get that bells and whistle on a not so new unit, real easy. You can put a Nest thermostat in. It’ll do that.
Tom: Do what?
Charlie: It’ll run it that way.
Tom: Oh, does it really?
Charlie: Yeah, it does. They turn it off and let the fan run a little longer.
