Charlie:
Gary in Klein says he has mildew on the ceiling and the upper wall in the toilet room. He wants to clean it and repaint it. After cleaning do you use any product before painting like a Kilz or a pigmented shellac? What do you say?
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom:
I need to get past a toilet room.
Charlie:
Toilet room, I think he means a commode.
Tom:
Probably a little half bath. No. Just clean it and paint it. It’s just mildew that’s on the surface of the paint. It’s probably near an air conditioner register. Maybe not, maybe it’s near a the vent fan. Either way you’re going to have temperature differences. You get a little mildew. That’s what’s called cleaning your house. Just clean it an paint it.
Charlie:
Is it possible to clean it off and say, “Hey, I don’t need to repaint it because the mildew will come right off.”
Tom:
Actually yes. People will do that sometimes. They’ll clean something and go, “Wow, I don’t have to buy a new car.” You know, like you do with your Bentley.
