Charlie: Jose from Manville has a question for you. His home was built in 2002, he moved in in ’14. They’re getting a lot of window condensation around the windows, especially in the winter months, and he thinks that would naturally occur in the bathroom but they’re getting it upstairs rooms as well. It’s caused some damage to the sheet rock that lined the windows. In fact there appear to be a bit of mold forming and the sheet rock’s breaking off, and obviously condensation’s causing these problems. His question is who would you recommend in fixing the damaged sheet rock, and is there any utility in sealing the windows from outside?
Tom: No. It’s probably happening on the north side of his house. We’ve had a very wet winter and a wet year all round, so it’s going to happen because the glass gets cold and hot, humid air touches it and dew point is reached and condensate is formed. As far as fixing the sheet rock and stuff, Rudy’s Quality Painting can take care of that. It’s going to be an ongoing problem in the winter for anybody that has those type of windows. I’m going to assume it’s an aluminum window, probably got a double pane but not a very good one.
Charlie: I have a fix for that.
Tom: The fix is replacement, window replacement, and that would be Gulf Coast Windows.
