Charlie: Roy in Aldine, his furnace will not respond to his thermostat. He wonders, “Is this a big problem?”

Tom: I don’t think it’s a big problem but this is why we have our winter checkups. We need to find out what it is? Is it a control board? Is it a thermostat issue? Usually, I’ll tell people this just for grins. “If you think you have a thermostat problem and you have a digital one, most have batteries. If you just change the batteries, the problem might go away.” Not guaranteed but its worth it than having a serviceman come out and replace batteries and have to charge for that, then you hate him because he’s, “Oh, he’s ripped me off.” Do that.
Besides that, it’s time for furnace checkups for everybody because we were lazy, we didn’t get the cold weather. We had it last week or so. Now, we’re back to 80 degrees and stuff here but it’s going to come back. For those of you that just moved to Houston, it does get cold in January and February. We’re not good at handling cold weather here. We’re all a bunch of sissies.

Charlie: Yeah. The other thing is, this happened to us one time. We shot one of those videos in my attic one time for the website. When we left that night, I said, “Man, it is getting cold in here! It’s not getting warm.” The thermostat wouldn’t respond. The shut off switch upstairs next to the furnace. They had turned it off to shoot the video.
Tom: That could be. If somebody’s been up there, it could be but I have a feeling, they have the limit switch on these things and the control boards now and something’s not talking to the other …
