I have a house in central Indiana. What are your thoughts on crawlspace encapsulation?
Craig
Tom: Even there it has to be vented, or it has to be conditioned. You should not just tighten it all up, for crawlspaces; basements are different, but crawlspaces, you still have moisture issues. Maybe on a snowy day or when the fronts run through you get that cold drop, so they still have to be vented or moisture controlled. If you do encapsulate them and tighten them up, then you have to put dehumidifiers and keep the humidity at a certain rate, which is usually around 60, 70%.
