Charlie: John in Huffman, all right? He says, “What would cause a commode to continually stop up?” Secondly, “How do you shop for a new one when you don’t know how the old one flushes?” In other words, he says, “Some of them, the bowl fills, it swirls, and the contents are taken down. And other ones, it’s like a jet engine in there.”
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom: Well, the jet engine’s one of those Sloan valves, and you can get those, but I don’t think that’s necessary. Other ones are gravity flow, and that’s what he says they swirl around, but they’re supposed to swirl better today than they did 15 years ago.
Charlie: It’s got a better swirl.
Tom: They’re swirling better, yes, because they figured out to increase the size of the throat. So, just a standard gravity flush today that you buy off the market. You have some designer choices. You can get colors. You can get different looks. You can get a 14 inch or an 18 inch, depending what your preference is. Then we can go with a Zoe bidet toilet seats and things of that nature, too.
Charlie: A bidet, yes.
Tom: There’s all kinds of different things. But, quite frankly, they’re all working pretty well right now.
Charlie: So, the size of the throat controls the swirl.
Tom: That’s what they figured out after they retooled everything when they went through that different gallon usage way back when and everybody complained.
Charlie: True of so many things in life.
Tom: Yes.
