I have copper flashing in my home built in 2000 with all wood doors. I would like to change to the rubber door weather seal.
Would this be possible? How would I do it?

Podcast: Play in new window
Tom: Usually it’s not possible because the rubber weatherstripping is made for doors that have grooves in it in the jambs. The cushion bronze is what he was talking about copper. And quite frankly, between me and everybody else, cushion bronze is the best so – it’s like going from metal duct to flex duct. Why change to something that’s not as good as what you have?
Charlie: Exactly. We had that in the house that’s for sale —
Tom: Yes.
Charlie: The new house has big doors.
Tom: This is I’m sorry, man.
Charlie: Yeah, I know.
Tom: I’ll just buy it.
Charlie: There go you. But anyway, seriously, we had that and I remember when Ike came through –
Tom: Yes.
Charlie: That was like a harmonica on the front of the house. You could hear it all over the house, that — the wind coming through that copper and it vibrating with the wind.
Tom: Bronze. It’s not a copper.
Charlie: Bronze. Okay.
Tom: It’s actually a little bit different but – and I believe you. Hurricane Ike. That’s a little extreme. We all heard things during Hurricane Ike.
Charlie: Well, they were saying –
Tom: Some people heard screaming. Ahhh, I’m going to go. So –
Charlie: Some people had the – heard the voice of angels.
Tom: And some people met some and it was very sad.
Charlie: It was indeed.
