What kind of durable floor can I use to replace old asphalt tiles?

Charlie: Jeanie in Navasota says, “I live in a 1936 peer and beam home out in Navasota. And, we’re talking an 84 year old home here. The kitchen has those 16 inch by 16 inch, black and white checkered pattern tile floors. And that diamond pattern.” You know what I’m talking about?

Tom: Mm-hmm.

Charlie: Says the floor is cracking on some of the tiles, and they’re similar to the old asphalt tiles. It’s a large kitchen with a medium sized TV area and an office in it. So, it’s a big space. And she said, “I like the floor pattern, but is there something with the same look, but maybe more durable and up to date?” (more…)

Should I call my home owners insurance for pin hole leaks in galvenized pipes I have in my attic?

Charlie: Dorsey in Cinco Ranch has one. She says, “I have a home built in the 1980s with Galvanized pipes and some recently developed some leaks in the attic above the second story, some small areas. Some little ceiling damage. And she wants to know a couple things. First of all, she wants to know the difference between re-piping and pipe restoration. She’s seen the videos on the website or he’s seen the videos on the website. Sorry, Dorcey. And then he wants to know should he call his homeowners insurance. (more…)

Who should I call to have a room addition tended to that was not properly built by the previous owner.

Charlie: Alicia from Alief writes to us here. Tom, she says, I bought a home in 1994, and the previous owner, you’re going to love this, had built on a 342 square foot room addition for himself, and he did it by just pouring concrete slab on the ground with no wire or steel beams. Well, she had the house leveled several years ago, but they would not put piers on that addition because there were no steel beams and the slab would just break down the middle. So now after Harvey and all the rain, we got the slab inside, it’s sinking, and the roof pitch is not right. It’s been repaired in smaller rooms three times, and to install filler to raise is only guaranteed for one year, and if I sell the house, that’s a problem no one would want to buy, so she called TriFection. She wants to know if they’re a reputable company because she’s starting to think that what she needs to do is do what you just talked about, call Cherry. (more…)
