Tom,
My home was built in 2001 and I have two a/c units (one for upstairs & one for dwonstairs) with the 4″ media filters in the attic. The house gets dusty quite often.
1. Do you recommend air duct cleaning?
2. If so, who do you recommend?
3. How often should I change the 4″ filters?
David
Tom: Well, first off, your air conditioning system will not remove dust in the home. If you have an issue in the house, it’s probably from some other source. Duct cleaning, no, that’s not going to help you a bit. Don’t get caught up in that sales hype, I guess you would say. As far as the filters themselves, they have a very specific purpose, and that is to keep the dirt out of the system, so the system stays clean, because dirt will break a system down. So that’s why they’re there. A 4″ filter, under normal circumstances, you would replace it every 6 months.
