Slime in the Garage

I have a wide spread problem with moisture leaching the lime up from the concrete slab in my garage.

I am concerned that my floor is eventually going to be destroyed from the surface flaking and its leaving divots in the floor.

I only started to have this problem about 8 years ago after pouring a concrete driveway addition and carport against one wall of the garage.  I had the home custom built in 1977 and I’m sure that they placed plastic on the foundation before pouring the slab. I get white chalky powder deposits all of the floor. When I clean that up it leaves small wholes and craters on the surface of the slab. Would putting down an epoxy surface help control the problem?  If not, how can I fix it?
