Salty A/C

The beach is tearing up my A/C. What do I do?

I have a beach house in Sea Isle Galveston on the GOM side. My AC unit is running hot and my outside unit is rusting away. My house is about 1000 sf 1st floor and about 400 sf 2nd floor. The unit is rated at 4 1/2 Tons // 5 tons. We live down at the beach ~ 80 % of the time.

1) What kind of replacement unit could I use to deal with the salt air? Would it be expensive?

2) What SEER rating should we consider?

3)What temperature should we set the thermostat when we leave for an extended time?
