… so that when the water and debris come down, it doesn’t do this. Hi, I’m Jim with Ideal Roofing. Let’s talk about chimneys, and how it joins with your roof. Here we see an area, a chimney that is missing a chimney cricket. What’s a chimney cricket? When we re-roof this, and now new construction, you would put a board structure right here, a 2×4 or 2×6, that extends from your roof to the back of your chimney, and then plywood it out. And you’re basically making a miniature roof right here that’s sloped in both directions, so that when the water and debris come down, it doesn’t do this. What’s it doing? It’s piling up behind the chimney. Water piles up here until it can move to the side. So, that chimney cricket diverts water to the left and to the right of the chimney. And of course, you’d have to re-flash the brick, because we’re moving the level of the roofing higher. And that’ll solve the problems behind your chimneys.
