Charlie: Here’s one from Curt in Sugarland. He says, “I had Du-west one of our HomeShow pros come out to my house and look at the foundation.” He said, “The house was built in 84 and looks like they have a problem.” He says, “Du-West is estimating about 31 grand for the foundation repair.” Which for a house that size you’d think that’s about right.
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom: Not a fun thing to hear.
Charlie: Right, but he wants to know how important is it to do that work right away rather than maybe waiting a year or so to save up for it?
Tom: There’s no reason you can’t wait. It’s not gonna fall down on you like Elmer Dutton told us once. There’s no such thing as an emergency foundation repair, it’s gotta be pretty bad to be that bad and I don’t know of any that ever were. But no, it’s time. You know what to do, you start saving your money, you make a plan, just like when you’re gonna buy a car or anything else, or send your kids to college or whatever the case may be, and when the time comes you’re ready to go then it’s time to do it.
Charlie: Zero interest loans with your credit cards, there’s all kinds of ways you can start preparing for running money like this.
Tom: Sure, one of the obvious things might be just look to see how much equity you have in the house, you can borrow against that.
Charlie: That’s what I say, you gotta make a plan now because you know what it’s gonna cost, and when the time comes let’s get it done, because eventually it’s got to get done, but no you don’t have to do it immediately.
