What are the pros and cons of some of the central air conditioning brands?

Charlie: AJ in Santa Fe asks, “The pros and cons of some central air conditioning brands,” and I think you’ve talked about this before Tom, about one brand versus the other.

Podcast: Play in new window

Tom: There’s a lot of brands and they all have to meet certain standards today, the SEER ratings. By meeting those you really can’t make a bad unit. You can only install a good unit badly. I really suggest whoever you use for the rest of your life on your house, if they last that long, to take care of your air conditioning system. Let them be the same people who install it.
We have a sponsor, Absolute Comfort Air. They do a lot of American Standard, for instance.
Charlie: Our trusted home show pro.
Tom: That’s right. They would say, “Hey, we would like to use American Standard.” That’s great because your buying that company to install it. They have a good reputation.
Charlie: Rapport?
Tom: Rapport is good, if you want to go up in the fancy land.
Charlie: I,,,
Tom: Good rapport with the manufacturers so they can get the warranty work done and take care of you in a better way. Pick the company, use one of their brands that they’re dealers of. I guess it’s a dealership is what a dealer program, and then you’re going to get the best install and someone who’s going to back it up.
