Charlie: Nikesh in Sienna Plantation says he has 20+ year old windows on his home. He’s thinking about replacing them, they’re all single pane. He had three companies come out, including Gulf Coast Windows, but there was one that was really inexpensive. He says he looked them up online, got a lot of bad reviews and a few good ones, mostly from their parents I’m sure. It says this is a big investment and I want to make sure I choose the right contractor. Tom, what should he look for in getting these replacement windows?
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom: Well, the window, obviously, you get a good one. Some people go three panes, two panes. Double-pane window for Houston is fine. You don’t have to go up to three different panes of glass. It gets a little redundant after awhile. The big thing is is the company that’s been around, how they’re gonna stand behind their work, and the installers. Are they factory-trained installers that have been doing this for that company for a long period of time, or are they just farming it out like you’ll get with a lot of the box stores and stuff just farm it out and they pay a certain amount of money per hole, is what we call it. You really don’t want that. You want the install to be just as good, if not better, than the window itself. To me, that’s what you’re looking for is you have reputation, how long they’ve been around. It’s not gonna be cheap no matter how you look at it. If you’re going cheap, you’re going to end up with a bad job. That’s just all there is to it with window replacement, but Gulf Coast I highly recommend. You can use them almost as your barometer, so to speak. I don’t know if those other companies can come as close as they do with all the way they back their products and their service and their warranties and that kind of thing up.
Charlie: Things that start good, stay good and vice versa. If you get a bad install, you’re gonna have leaks, there are gonna be call backs and all that stuff.
Tom: Oh goodness.
Charlie: That’s the thing about Gulf Coast is that their install is what it is. That’s one of the reasons they’re one of our home show pros. We’re not just saying that because they’re a sponsor. We’re saying that by personal experience that we’ve seen the work they do. That’s why save a nickel, spend a dollar is what you’re gonna do when you go with a lower cost window, okay.
