Charlie: Rick in Nassau Bay gets us rolling. He says, I have a hard wood deck that has been pressure washed and cleaned. And, I said, I love the wood, it looks beautiful. What can I seal it with to keep it looking that way?

Tom: Well there’s a lot of deck sealers you can get. You can get clear ones out there. Go to any good paint store, and they’ll have a deck sealer. Go penetrating, don’t do a topical thing like something … Like a urethane would be a good example, or it’s a topical product. It’ll curl, it’ll yellow, it’ll crack. You want something that penetrates in, and you can do once in a while quickly, without having to strip it and clean it and stuff, if you stay on top of it. But remember this,
Charlie: Mm-hmm (affirmative).
Tom: A clear seal will last a good one year if it’s a good one. And after that, you might want to do it every Spring. Give it a nice easy wash, and then put another coat on there. And that way it’ll keep it from turning on you again, where you have to go through this whole big process of acid cleaning and stuff on them.
Charlie: If he uses one with more pigment, he gets more protection.
Tom: More pigment, more protection and there are some out there that have them. A Wolman W-O-L-M-A-N. That was a good company that had a lot of different products you could choose from.
Charlie: You speak of them in the past tense, are they no more?
Tom: Well no, I’m sure they’re around, I just haven’t bought any in a while.
Charlie: Okay.
