What is the best way to seal those joints in the driveway after the original framing boards rot out?

Charlie:
John in Cypress, he writes in, what is the best way, and this is a question I know you’ve never heard before, what is the best way to seal those joints in the driveway after the original framing boards rot out?

Podcast: Play in new window

Tom:
Two aspirin and call me in the morning. Yeah I think that was the original question I ever got-

Charlie:
It’s one of them, yeah.

Tom:
Yeah, it really is, and there’s not a good answer today. There’s some fillers you can use, I don’t think they look better, they just looked different. You don’t have to do anything at all and I think that’s what most people do, nothing. Then there’s also some gaskets you can shove in there too, I’ve never personally used one, but in fact I’ve never even seen one except on the propaganda at the home shows and stuff. So, I’m not sure if I have a really good answer today, in fact I know I don’t.

Charlie:
So your advice is, do nothing.

Tom:
I would do nothing.

Charlie:
Maybe put something in there to kill the weeds that come up.

Tom:
Well you use a little weed killer once in a while, but you know even if you use the other things, weeds come up. Have you ever driven down the highway? There’s weeds all over the place!

Charlie:
So, do nothing.

Tom:
Yeah. Where did the weeds come from? People think it comes from the ground, actually it’s comes from the air the seeds settling all kinds of places. That’s why if you put a lot of weed block down under beds and stuff, they still get weeds because of the birds in the air and the seeds that fly around so, it grows from the top not underneath.
