Here’s a question from John in Montrose… he writes:
Can you please recommend somebody for wrought iron railing painting. He has second story french doors and they’re starting to rust and fade. That’s a Rudy job, isn’t it?[display-podcast]
Tom:
Oh, yeah, he did all of my wrought iron gates when he painted my house. I’ve got two entry gates to the pool area and he actually did a great job on it.
Charlie:
Double shot of Rudy this morning. Is there anything involved in that? Is there any kind of special primer you use or anything?
Tom:
No, you just clean it and you use a metal paint … a paint that goes on metal. If you have rusty areas, he’ll probably wire brush them down, and then hit it with a little rusty metal primer and then go ahead and do the whole thing. Most people use black or brown for the colors, but whatever the color is, you can find a color for metal. It’s pretty simple.
Charlie:
He came and did the gate at our house, and it looks like a million bucks. He just did an awesome job.
Tom:
He did a good job. It’s tedious work, I mean you’ve got one little piece after another little piece.
Charlie:
I’ve heard.
Tom:
I used to take these paint mitts. You’d just stick your whole hand in the paint, and then you just rub your hand down the rails and-
Charlie:
That sounds like a thorough job. (laughter)
Tom:
It’s like milking a cow.
