What type of Insulation should I use for the crawl space of my new home?

Charlie:
From Roy in the 5th Ward. “I’m having my home torn down and building a new one here in Houston.” It’s an 1,800 square foot, but he’s going to put a crawl space underneath it. “What type of insulation would you recommend in the attic for a house like that? Open? Closed? Spray foam? Spray radiant? What?”

Podcast: Play in new window

Tom:

Radiant Barrier Decking with a formaldehyde free fiberglass R-30 would suffice. Very simple. Everybody wants this foam. Foam, foam, foam, close-open, medium-closed, semi-sweet. No, no foams. No white chocolate foam. Just formaldehyde free fiberglass.
