Is 2 Tankless Better Than 1?

I have a question about tankless water heaters.

My two story,4 bedroom, 3.5 bath home (3800 sq. ft.) has two 50-gallon gas water heaters on opposite ends of attic. I know you’ve said one tankless is good for the entire home. However, since the plumbing is already zoned, would it be less costly to install two smaller gas tankless water heaters? Would my plumbing have to be reworked and existing gas line to water heater upsized to accommodate one tankless heater?
