Charlie:
Kay in Huntsville has written to us. She says, “How expensive is it to install heated tile floors in a small bathroom, and will it add a lot to my electric bill, and can you turn it on and off?”
Tom:
She can turn it on and off. That’s the easiest part. You don’t have heated tiles, but you do a floor heating system underneath the tile, so it’s radiating floor heat.
Charlie:
Okay.
Tom:
There’s electric systems out there. I know the latest ones I put in before I stopped building several years ago, but we did quite a few in master baths, was made by Carrier. It was electric mat that goes down first.
Charlie:
That’s cool.
Tom:
Then the tile goes on top, and actually it was very warm. People really, really enjoyed it. I’m sorry, that’s rude of me. They really did like it.
Charlie:
Are they rolling around on their bathroom floor, just loving their warm tiles? I’m trying to get a picture here.
Tom:
Think about this, she said, “How much will it cost?” It’ll actually cost less, because you don’t have to the entire home up to a nice, warm, toasty temperature, if you’re just going to do the little bathroom. Instead of trying to get the whole house to a temperature, where you’re running around naked and wet, you can just keep it in the bathroom.
