Is the odor coming from my plumbing?

Recently, one of my upstairs restrooms seems to smell quite foul time to time… The toilet flushes all right and there is no apparent issues… Is there something I can do to alleviate the situation or I must find a plumber? My house is now 10 years old.

Tom: They always blame the plumbing, and you know, it’s usually not. It could be dead squirrels, it could be your kid’s shoes, it could be rotting carpet, it could be a leak in what we call the building envelope, or breach. If he would like to call a plumber, if he suspects it’s coming from his bathroom plumbing, he can do that. That would be a pea trap or toilet that needs to have a new wax ring. But, usually it’s much more in-depth than that. Something is going on, and I’m not sure how to do anything but just really investigate.
