Should I remove tar paper before installing new siding?

We are replacing the original siding on the second floor of our 1975 house with Hardy board. Should I remove the original tar paper or leave it on because I would like to install Tyvec before installing the new siding.

Tom: Either way, but it’s probably going to be a cleaner job to take it off. It’s so easy just to rip it off and pound the nails in, and get it all nice and clean and prepped and ready to go. I’m concerned about [Charlie 00:00:09] since we’re doing this real time, is the fact that we’ve had a lot of rain and he had a lot of demo done. I hoped he survived the onslaught of all these storms.
Charlie: Oh, my.
Tom: Yeah, because this is what happens when people start ripping stuff off their homes. The weather changes [crosstalk 00:00:23].
Charlie: Exactly.
Tom: God bless him. I hope he’s good.
