I am installing wood flooring over cement and I am trying to decide on which underlayment to use. Is there a product or company that you recommend? Also, does the underlayment also act as a moisture barrier, or will I have to put that down too?
Thanks,
Jacob
Tom: Actually, some floors come with it already on the bottom of the actual floor.
Charlie: An engineered floor does?
Tom: Yeah, they’ll have a padding and a moisture barrier already on the bottom. You just snap them together. Here’s what I’m getting at is, there isn’t one way to do it. Whatever the manufacturer has designed or requested that they’re floor to be put down, with is what you use.
Charlie: Mm-hmm. (affirmative)
Tom: Yes, most of them do have the moisture barrier. There will be some kind of plastic, but there’s not just one under laid. There’s a lot of different ones. Some are both, some you have to do two different. You have have to do plastic and foam and then some like I say, already have it on the backing, so whatever you floor you buy, follow the recommendations.
