Flooring Procedures

I am confused about putting down engineered wood floor on concrete. Should I use a moisture barrier to separate from the concrete, or glue down to concrete? If I use plywood, to nail down, what size to buy 1/4 or 5/8? One contractor want me to buy 5/8 which is too expensive for a large new construction house. Do I glue and nail to plywood?

Need help asap

Tom:: I don’t like gluing down any kind of wood or laminate floors. I think they should be … unless it’s a tile that looks like wood, that’s different. You always follow the manufacturer’s recommendations. This is not something I make you, you make up.
If you’re buying a Mannington, or … I’m just coming up with names … Pergo, or whatever it might be, Wilsonart, follow the procedure that they recommend for their particular floor. That way, not only are you going to have a good chance of doing it right, but you also will have a warranty that will stay into effect if there is a material failure.
Charlie:: Yeah, this is not one of those things you want to figure out as you go along.
Tom:: No, and there’s many … and that’s why we recommend so many people go over to see Jason at Texas Floors or Ryan over there, because they have to deal with this constantly about the new procedures, the new products, the new underlayments. It’s a lot of work.
