Buckling under the pressure

I own a 1930″s bungalow in the Heights – I recently had the house leveled as there were some doors beginning to stick and I wanted to make sure the foundation was a level as it can be because we are about to start renovation projects. I had a local Foundation company come out to level the house – It did take three visits for the house to be as level as they could get it. Now my wood floors are beginning to buckle in places.

I have lived in the house for roughly 20 years and have never had the floors buckle up – Cannot figure out if the wooden floor is buckling as a result of something the levelers did or if it is just a situational event due to humidity or something along the lines of environment – It seems like we have experienced every environmental situation possible in the last twenty years, however I could be wrong – Any ideas about the wood floor situation? – I would greatly appreciate your advice /insight.

Tom: Well I think what happens is, and she uses Word level a lot, hopefully they didn’t level the home, they just put it back to where it was.
Charlie: But to true.
Tom: Yeah, sometimes they over stress the homes when they put them back. What happens is with wood floors, you have to have about a quarter inch expansion joint all the way around the edges. I have a feeling that it squeezed a little bit on the floors where they don’t have that room to move, so they’re finding a weak point within the field of the floor to do a little buckling. Especially now that we’re starting to get a lot of rain. We have really got more than we’ve had in probably two years. I have a feeling the floors are stressing out, and he might have to have someone come in and release the pressure on the floors around the edges, and then refinish them, but I think they can be saved. I just think that’s what it is.
Charlie: All right. The good news is that the floor isn’t ruined.
Tom: Well, yeah. When you re-level a house, or put it back to where it was, you have residual problems that arise down the road, and hopefully the companies will tell you. They can’t guarantee it, they can’t say they’re going to fix it for no cost to you, they don’t know what it’s going to be, but sometimes it does happen, and I think this is one of them.
