Charlie:
Brent from Champions has one for you, Tom. He says he has had two water leaks, some pinhole leaks in the past year, and each one has been pretty expensive because it’s causing him some sheetrock problems. He’s trying to figure the way to fix it. He got quotes for PEX, and he’s also considering other options. Give him the pluses and minuses, PEX and the epoxy coating.
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom:
PEX is a good product, and if you’re going to remodel your home and you’re tearing all the sheetrock out and everything, you might as well re-plumb it.
Charlie:
Which it sounds like he may be.
Tom:
That would be probably something he could do, and to be honest, if you’re ripping your house apart and all the walls are open and the ceiling’s open, it’s actually cheaper to re-pipe than it is to do what I’m about to say the other option is.
Charlie:
Okay.
Tom:
Because the other option uses a lot of different equipment and stuff, but if you don’t want to go through all that trouble patching holes and repainting the entire house and this kind of thing, which gets very expensive, then you call Texas Drain Technology and get a quote on having your pipes relined, and that would be a cheaper option. Both of them are very good options, but that would be the cheaper option if you’d like to keep your house intact, so I would definitely call TDT if you were going to do that. If you’re going to remodel the entire home, plumbers can come in and out if the whole thing’s open and do it very quickly.
Charlie:
One of the things that you often say when you’re talking about this that I think it’s overlooked is when you’re considering that PEX option, you have to remember that them just patching the wall is not putting it back.
Tom:
Right.
Charlie:
You’re going to have to pay for a painter and all that.
Tom:
Texture. They’ll patch the hole, but you’ve got texturing, which can be an art, if you ask Rudy. You know how that works.
Charlie:
Yeah, I do.
Tom:
Then you’re not going to match just one little paint patch on your ceiling. You’ll have to paint the whole ceiling. You’ll have to paint the whole wall. You’ll have to rebuild the back of the cabinets. I mean, there’s a lot involved when you start tearing a house up.
Charlie:
You have to buy your wife a new car. It gets expensive.
