Charlie: Ben in the Galleria. As he’s heard you talk about foam insulation in the most loving and positive terms, he wants to know why you’re against …
Tom: Really?
Charlie: Yeah.
Tom: Does he listen our show?
Charlie: He wants to know what have you got against foam and why isn’t it more energy efficient?
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom: Yes, living in a styrofoam cooler would be more energy efficient. Is it a great way to live? No. You have a lot of issues dealing with a home, you have healthy home, you have good air quality, you have to have minimal mold growth because of moisture being trapped in what we call the building envelope. There is a lot of different issues that give a good quality home. You don’t want to spend too much money to save very little but the bottom line is this, foam is great in Lake Placid, New York or Alaska or Colorado. Now there’s a great place, people in Texas can relate to Colorado. That we would use a lot of foam because it’s so cold in the snow. Are you going to Colorado?
Charlie: Not any time soon.
Tom: No, my daughter lives in Denver so that came to mind.
Charlie: Okay.
Tom: No, no, and not for that reason Charlie. Colorado, okay. You didn’t even get it, did you? It’s legal there.
Charlie: Oh! yeah, okay.
Tom: He’s like, oh, that’s so far off his plate. Not everybody is …
Charlie: When you have four kids in college and two in middle school, that’s off your mind. I mean that wasn’t even close.
Tom: . Most people catch that one quick. Anyway, the bottom line is in Houston, Gulf Coast, humidity, different temperatures, the weather changing so quickly, it’s not a good idea.
Charlie: Got it.
