Charlie: Ronnie from Texas City has Rockwool insulation in his 1963 house. It has broken down bare spots. He wants to put in new insulation. Should he have the rockwool sucked out before he does that?
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom: There are companies that do insulation that do have vacuum trucks and if it was me, I would certainly do some calls. I don’t have a name for them but I would have it taken out because it’s not going to get any better with age. It’s just going to become a terrible dust problem. Now the one thing different between that and cellulose which becomes a dust problem also, is there’s not any poisons in rockwool. It was a natural product, but it aggravates people’s nasal passages and can cause people to sneeze and think they have allergies and stuff. So that can be a real issue but there are no chemicals in there which is a good thing.
