Charlie:: James from Sugarland has written to us and he says that he’s in a new home with a radiant barrier. He wants to know, how hot should the attic be in the summer?
James
Tom:: It’s going to be hot.
Charlie:: It’s going to be hot.
Tom:: How hot should an attic be in the perfect world? What are we always trying to achieve when we create an energy efficient home?
Charlie:: Can I guess?
Tom:: Go ahead.
Charlie:: Same temperature as outside.
Tom:: That’s exactly right. Whether it’s zero degrees, forty below, or forty above the temperature of the sun, it doesn’t matter. That’s what we’re trying to achieve. Usually in the afternoon though it’s going to be ten to twelve degrees hotter. Radiant barrier does help though.
