Charlie: “Greg in Prairie View writes to us, “Tom we just recently moved into a newly constructed home and we have a well as our water source. We just had what we believed to be a couple reputable people come to the house. One of them was Aquatex,” so we know that he’s at least right that far.
Charlie: “”They gave us a bid on a water softening and reverse osmosis systems,” and he wants to know your preference. He knows that Aquatex is on our website and he’s heard you talk about them, but he really wants any pros or cons or are there any specific models or anything like that?
Tom: “They’ll design the model you need depending on their usage. The reverse osmosis is a K5, that’s for everybody. It’s going to be pretty standard. They use a kinetico like of water softening and water filtering systems, which I personally own and like very much for the mere fact, with the water softener it uses no electricity, it measures the amount of water you use, so it only regenerates when it needs to. As far as the reverse osmosis, I’ve had many through my life in different houses. This one is smaller, more compact, it tells you when the filter needs to be changed, and it’s engineered really well, so it’s simple. The other ones always seemed a lot more difficult. This one’s just simpler to handle as a homeowner.
Charlie: “The good thing about the kinetico , like you’re saying, is it doesn’t use a timer, and so it doesn’t need electric and all that. The ones that he was talking about from the other companies are using a timer. You say your salt use was less too?
Tom: Well, in my case it became less because it’s only my wife and I. At one time it might have been more if I had five or six kids, which I don’t, by the way. Those of you who think those are my kids, they’re not. I’ll do a DNA test. Anyway, don’t come knocking on my door. I won’t answer.
Anyway, it depends how much water, but it uses exactly what it needs to use. The more people, the more salt. The less people, the less salt. When you’re on a timer they just try to wing it and kind of guesstimate, and then it’s going to be probably over generating more than it needs to, only so that you don’t feel uncomfortable during certain times when you use too much water.
