Charlie: Mary from Aldine says, “A snake peeked his head out from the weep hole in my house. After seeing me, he went right back in again. Now I’m not sure,” she says, “if he’s making this his home, but how in the heck do I get him out? If he hasn’t exited already, is there something I can put in the weep holes that is safe?”
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom: That is Safe?
Charlie: She doesn’t want to screw up the weep holes or whatever.
Tom: You can’t, and I’m sure there’s more snakes in people’s walls than you can ever imagine, but … I guess you could hang a mouse by its tail on the outside and see if it comes out.
Charlie: All the snakes are not in Washington.
Tom: Well, a lot of them are. I’m not sure. There’s a lot of snakes showing their dirty little faces this year.
Charlie: Because of the moisture?
Tom: It’s because of the rain. It’s been going on … We found some in one of our campuses the other day. They’re coming up the floor drains. They come up the drains. They will get in the weep holes. They’re beneficial animals. They’re really not going to hurt you, but they do eat mice and rats. They take care of a lot of the critters that we don’t know about. I don’t know if I’d really worry too much about it.
Charlie: Maybe that’s what we should get. We had a little light went out on our generator and called Generator Power Systems over to check it out. He took the front off. Guess what? There’s a little rat nest in our generator.
Tom: Rat nest?
Charlie: Not any more. Back to Mary, anything she can do?
Tom: I don’t think she needs to do anything. If she wants to call an exterminator, she certainly can. I’m not sure who’s going to tear the bricks out to find a little snake, and who knows where that thing is in a day or two?
Charlie: So don’t worry, be happy?
Tom: Yeah, I just wouldn’t worry about it if there’s a little snake hanging around in there, and I’m sure there’s more snakes under more people’s decks and their storage sheds in their back yards or running around their house. People just don’t see them, but they’re out there.
