What is the required clearance (vertical from the roof and horizontal to the roof slope) for a sewer vent?
The vents in question are located close to two slopes that are at right angles to each other and near the roof peaks which have ridge vents.

Tom: Sewer vents don’t really have a requirement. They can go just about anywhere. But sometimes you can get a downdraft and you can smell sewage smell mainly when it’s cold out and the air wants to drop. So sometimes you can raise them a little higher or you can move them, but for the most case there is no code requirements on the vents; they just have to come up and just naturally release the methane gas.
Charlie: Are they usually like right over whatever they are venting?
Tom: Most of the time it’s a straight-up run, but you can arm them over and you can put them different places. A lot of people when we build homes they don’t want to see them in the front. They say they’re ugly, so we arm them back and put them on the back of the house behind the ridge so that way you don’t have to look at all the penetrations.
