Greetings Tom. I’m a long time listener and have heard about the ace duraflo. We recently bought a house that has galvanized piping. I’m considering the ace duraflo and have researched pex piping and copper piping. What are your thoughts on the best solution?

Tom’s Answer:
Tom: Let’s start with copper. It was “the king” of the world for a long time, but water is so aggressive today, that when the water touches all the metal, you end up having problems. Copper has its own inherent problems now, so rule that one out.
If you’re building a new home, PEX products are the ones that we’re using now, because they have a lining on the inside. You don’t have the water touching the metal, so you don’t have the corrosion happening because of the aggressive waters.
When it comes to an older house that you want to just redo, the ePipe system from Texas Drain Technology, who happens to do it here it town … They line the pipe. The lining doesn’t allow the water to touch the metal anymore; plus they’re able to sandblast those pipes nice and clean.
If you’re not doing any remodeling, you just want your pipes brand new, then go with the ePipe system. If you are doing remodeling, you’re tearing out the sheetrock and everything, and you’re just doing a full gut of the house, then you can go ahead with the PEX; but forget about the copper.
