What is your opinion on R30 cellulose blown-in insulation with boric acid?
Lisa
Tom: R30 is great. Blown in is wonderful. The cellulose with boric acid, not a good choice. The cellulose insulation is made up of ground-up recycled newspapers, cardboard boxes, things like that, and will deteriorate over time and become a dusty mess.
The other problem with a boric acid, and they’ll probably tell you this as an advantage to you, that it kills bugs and things like that. Well, it’s a poison. You know, it’s good you kill bugs, but it also can kill you. It just takes longer, and it might just be like a thirty year experience.
Charlie: Here’s what we’re going to do.
Tom: Yeah.
Charlie: We’re going to put poison in your house.
Tom: Yeah, it’s finally going to get you. It’s kind of like a cigarette, or a lot of other things in this world, actually. But no, use fiberglass. There’s no poisons in it, and it will last and not become a dusty mess.
