Which came first the roof or the eg- …I mean insulation?
I bought an older house built in 1972. The house has flat roof that was painted white after the last time the roof was redone to reflect the sun I’m sure. Since then the coating has worn off and the roof is mostly black. My air conditioner struggles to cool the house now more that before and I attribute it partly to the black roof. Also, yesterday while having my AC serviced the technician looked in the attic and said I only had 4-5 inches of insulation.
I realize I probably need to correct both of these items to truly improve efficiency. For the best bang for my buck and for doing the most good to cool the house, which one should I do first? Also what type of insulation I should get? Currently, my insulation is the blown in type. Any good installers for insulation or roofing?
