Charlie:
Dale in Willis is converting a pole barn into his home and he wants to know what would you recommend for insulation?
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom:
The same thing I recommend to everybody. Formaldehyde free fiberglass.
Speaker 1:
Okay.
Tom
You’re going to build your house inside this pull barn, you’ll probably frame it up or you’re going to finish the inside of the wall. I’m not sure how he’s going to detail the inside, but, formaldehyde free fiberglass is the way to go.
Charlie:
Are we assuming the pole barn has wood siding on it?
Tom
I would assume it, yeah. I don’t know if it’s a metal building. A pole barn is usually not a metal building, but I can only assume from the way the question’s asked.
Charlie:
All right, now if it is, let’s just say, take a flier on this one. Maybe it is a metal building, a metal barn that he’s converting, would that be a different choice other than the fiber glass?
Tom
No. But, you would insulate it differently. A metal building has insulation up against the wall to keep it from sweating and then inside the metal building you build your 2 x 4 walls, you know, in your ceiling joist and whatnot. You still wrap that with formaldehyde free fiberglass.
Charlie:
What do you put up against the metal siding?
Tom
That’s the metal siding insulation that should come with the building.
Charlie:
Okay.
Tom
But when I say pole barn, I really doubt it’s a metal building.
Charlie:
Dale, we’ll just have to assume.
