Charlie: Cheryl’s over in Bossier City, Louisiana. She says, “Aiyee.” And then she writes, “I have seen your YouTube videos regarding pier and beam homes and not insulating under a house and under a floor in the Houston area, and sure maybe in Texarkana. But what about Bozure City, Louisiana?” She says the cold winter length varies from year to year, so, what’s better? Skirting it, or insulating with straps? What?
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom: You’d never skirt. In Louisiana, Texas, the whole Gulf Coast area, even if you are a little bit off the coast, you want it to breathe. That’s why you get rid of the moisture because moisture is your biggest problem under there. And it is true, if you have a cold winter, you’re going to feel it. But, most of the time, unless the winter’s more than a month long, I would not do it. I would just get fuzzy slippers and turn the heat on.
But, if you really want to use insulation …
Charlie: There’s a picture.
Tom: I look good in them too by the way.
Charlie: You make ’em look good.
Tom: I got indoor, outdoor ones with ears.
Charlie: It’s like Men in Black, you make them look good.
Tom: That’s right. So, if you’re going to insulate, use a formaldehyde free fiberglass and you can hold it up with the strapping that comes along with it, that you can buy to go with the insulation.
