I just purchased a home built in 1984. It has masonite siding, which is in pretty good shape. How should I maintain it?
And if I ever decide to replace it, will this siding be removed before the new siding is put on?

Tom’s Answer:
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom: Yes. I mean, I hope we have a lot of emails this segment.
Charlie: Yeah.
Tom: Because that one’s too easy. Hardie’s great man.
Charlie: Yeah.
Tom: It’s going to last longer than any of us sitting at this table I know. I have it on my own house and I often say, wow, it’s kind of scary when I know it’s going to be there and I won’t.
Charlie: Yeah. But – but, what about her masonite that she says is in pretty good shape, can she, what do you say for maintaining that tile?
Tom: Listen, if you can’t afford to reside your home …
Charlie: Yeah.
Tom: When she said, she said if I replace should I use Hardee? The answer’s yes. A good paint job, if it’s still holding up, it’s not going to hold up forever. It’s not a fine wine that gets better with age. But …
Charlie: Or my wife.
Tom: You know, it’s all about your… Hey John, I’m not saying that. Like my wife says to me, Motto Waw [ph]. That mean’s shut your mouth.
Charlie: Is – is that a … don’t scare me about being married, because she would say things in another language.
Tom: Okay, well that language can be pretty powerful. If – if your budget can’t handle it and it holds up a few more years, a good paint job …
Charlie: Right.
Tom: I say that’s fine. My mother still has one on five wood on her house and we replaced a piece here and there
